This smart urban strategy developed by the city, through Eriges, the autonomous municipal agency, was recognized as a smart and integrated solution to regenerate the Seraing valley by key experts in Belgium.
The ambitious urban redevelopment Master plan, comprising 320 complementary actions to be delivered within 20 to 30 years, is a model of urban voluntarism in the country.
"Our strength lies in the existence of a global strategy, integrated and long-term, a real coordinated puzzle aimed at rebuilding a priority intervention zone sheltering more than 15,000 inhabitants, out of a total of 65,000 in the municipality of Seraing", says Alain Mathot, mayor of Seraing.
The choice of a global Master Plan has placed the City of Seraing in a position of reference. It is the only Walloon municipality involved in a "Smart Cities and Communities" project, as replication leader and follower city in the REMOURBAN project.
Concretely, this smart city project supports the actions of the Master Plan for a more effective implementation in the three key areas: energy efficiency of buildings, sustainable mobility and information and communication technologies (ICT).
Another major advantage: the concept of the Master Plan is highly replicable. "He has already served as an example to several cities in search of an effective urban development strategy", concludes Alain Mathot.
